Mtgo matchmaking

But what about Magic Online? Surely the internet has solved these problems. Nope. If you want any semblance of competition and sane cost.

Stop acting like a child and learn the way that businesses work. People act like this game was free to make, that wizards created it for some "greater good" to let everyone enjoy magic.

Wotc and hasbro are businesses- their aim is to generate sales and deliver returns for their investors. You are not entitled to anything when it comes to this game whatsoever. MTGO doesn't even have daily rewards where you're actually able to get cards for simply playing the game.

Holy ****, this game sucks as a "new" player

I agree with Mcnealstash's underlying sentiment though not necessarily the method of delivering that message. The game is free and can be free and enjoyed. Yes, not putting money into it will likely create situations where someone has a tiered deck that you lose to.

  • Which means the free decks can still win. As people have pointed out, Arena provides ways to increase your collection for free and without a ton of effort. For example, I have 3 daily challenges all worth gold. I think Draft is gold so it is a little under a third of that. Also, during the closed beta there was always one challenge worth gold so I am not sure if they just got rid of that. And, winning games up to 15 also gets you gold and cards. I think it is somewhere around gold total with 7 or 8 cards. Since these are daily events, that means after 1 week you get 10, gold total if you never win a game so you can enter 2 limited environments for a guaranteed 8 packs or just buy 10 packs outright.

It is not the fastest way of course, but it is doable. This also doesn't take into account the wildcards you get during this process. And, the weekly challenge gets you another 3 packs. There are likely improvements that could be made but it is nowhere near as bad as some are making it out to be. And, as the rankings are established, you are less likely to see those higher tiered decks unless you also are winning a lot to match them or someone new just dumped a bunch of money into the game which, again, is just like FNM.

I do want to clarify that the evaluation above is based on all 3 daily events refreshing each day since I am pretty sure that is what I saw happen in the closed beta. I realized I have never actually completed all 3 at once in the open beta and then confirmed that I got 3 new ones each day.

    League Event Structures

If not, then I rescind my assessment above and agree that the ability to grind is made even worse as that means you can only get gold a day maybe another or so from winning 15 games but that is harder to without a decent deck which means that without winning, you need to play for 10 days to get entry into a limited tournament. That makes it much worse than the 2 tournaments a week my math above suggests. Last edited by WizardMN: You do not get 3 new quests daily. Each quest refreshes every 24 hours I believe. After that I built up a decent collection for the most part.

Other than that I save up for limited events and play those, I think it is the best use of the in game gold as you have a chance to just keep going. It feels too predatory as a F2P game from the economy. Many of the problems that were raised during the closed beta I see still haven't been addressed properly regarding the economy. I had plenty of wildcards of each category that I was saving up for the next set only to find out that hard work would be wiped. You can upgrade with the booster itself, Event Tickets, or Play Points.

This upgrade is completely optional. If you decide against upgrading immediately, you can decide to upgrade at any time until your League course is complete. The new cards will pop up in a "New Cards" window so you can easily see what your new options are. Players will move through the League at their own pace, so at any given time different players will be in different stages. Matchmaking will only occur within a stage, so players will have had the same number of opportunities to upgrade.

Whether a player chose to upgrade is not a factor in matchmaking. So players in Stage 2, for example, will only match against other players in Stage 2.

    League Updates

The exception to this is the last couple days of the League, once it has closed to new entries. During this time, you can check a box to choose whether or not you're willing to be matched with someone in a later stage to get a match in more quickly. You're assumed to be willing to be matched with someone in an earlier stage if they have checked the box. After your League course has finished, you'll get any prizes earned for your ending stage, plus your overall number of wins in the entire League.

Your cards will be eligible for trade, and assuming the League hasn't closed you can join the League all over again! Here's the structure for the first League, which will start Monday, April 18, right after Prereleases for Shadows over Innistrad end:. Three stages, each of which consists of three matches, for a total of nine matches, each up to 50 minutes. The existing Sealed League concentrates prizes in the top finishers, which we call "competitive.

We expect different people will have different preferences here, and that's okay. Neither is superior to the other—it's a matter of what appeals to you as a player. Spellseeker in particular is a high priority for the first release after M19, given the discussions around its potential Legacy implications. After that, we have three weeks of Vintage Cube available, going right up until the launch of M19 and the release of the first of the Battlebond cards coming to MTGO.

You may have noticed some small changes to yield technology in the Dominaria build of Magic Online. For starters, I apologize on behalf of the team for not sufficiently announcing and explaining these changes before they went live.

This option yielded automatically passed priority until the turn was over. Choosing this option from the menu is the same as hitting 6 on your keyboard: Nothing there has changed. This visual indicator is subtle, but good to have all the same. This will hopefully prevent people from manually passing for most of a turn because they want to do something in a specific phase, only to accidentally pass priority through that phase.

I think most of us have. First, Dominaria cards were added to all formats, which means that reprints of Dominaria cards became legal after downtime, and additional Dominaria cards will show up as they are opened in events and products.

MTG - A Critical Review of Magic: The Gathering Arena - BETA

This will be fixed in the next week or so. Now, when dealing damage, Planeswalkers need to be targeted directly, so make sure you target appropriately. This also means that any opponent effects cannot be redirected to Planeswalkers. This was intentional choice. While MTGO tries to maintain a very close relationship with table top Magic, we also try to leverage our digital platform when it makes sense. This was one of those times. Fourth, we launched an exciting new format in Brawl, but in the process somehow broke the starting life totals for both Commander and 1v1 Commander.
