Still, the companies all work pretty similarly, I may be a little abnormal in this opinion, but I think Russian dating is a great thing in most cases. Sure, there are a few scamming women and sleazy men, but that's true of any dating.

Russian dating gives people something they can't get from traditional dating options, and a lot of people are very happy with the lives they build after meeting their partner on these kinds of sites. I liked that the documentary showed a good variety of situations. Some went well, and others bordered on creepy - but the movie didn't attempt to judge any of the participants. Considering that some of the guys hadn't been treated very well by American women, I was happy to see how much fun they were having on their Ukraine trip. It didn't work out for everyone, but it was an interesting journey, and it gives you a lot of good insight into why the men and women choose international dating.

We as humans have complex emotional needs. The need for love and companionship ranks near the top of these needs. With that in in mind, there is a multibillion dollar industry that caters to the lonely looking for that special someone to make their life complete. After watching this video I can honestly say that the experiences of all of the men that this documentary centered around are typical of anybody looking for a partner. One of the men was very disillusioned with the attitudes of the women he met.

As it turns out, Mr. Adams has also run a strictly sex tour site. Although rather callous to admit, the men that spend thousands of dollars to travel overseas to find a bride are ripe to be scammed. Scammers can smell desperation a mile away. Overall, this has been the best documentary about mail order brides I have come across. He has only ever had one serious relationship, and his luck has run out in his hometown, it is time for Travis to look another direction. Inna has passed her prime to find a husband in Ukraine, which is why she hopes to meet a foreign man to start a family with.

The trailer for Netflix's Ukraine documentary is chilling

Inna talks of how her desires and frustrations with finding somebody in Ukraine led her to turn towards International dating. Svitlana is from Cherkassy, Ukraine and is a single mother with two daughters. She has raised her children by herself and says that any woman in Ukraine must learn to survive there by any means necessary or get out and emigrate. She corresponds with men from foreign countries hoping to find the promise of marriage in order to provide her children with a better life.

Vitalina comes from a modest family in the rural city out of Nikolayev, Ukraine where living conditions can be tough. She was already married one time before, and is now looking for someone to settle down with permanently. John Adams is the poster-boy for the mail-order bride phenomenon. As founder of A Foreign Affair , the largest International Marriage Broker in America based in Phoenix, Arizona, John promotes his business by selling his personal success story to men looking for love.

John believes that the best way to find a companion from a foreign country is to go over there and meet someone in person. I met a few very few women, who simply didn't seem interested. Apart from not being that attractive myself, the whole deal seems to have been a scam. I found out later the same woman operating the matchmaking service actually ran a tour guide service where the very same women I met could show you around the city, cook you breakfast, and have a "romantic candelit dinner" with.

So after getting ripped off on the apartment the matchmaker set up, and even the "taxi" from the airport , I then left Ukraine with nothing.

Thousands of dollars down the drain for nothing. Then, in my folly, I a site which has a golden reputation in the online mail order bride OK, international dating business: Loads of apparently empty profiles set up by the site to boost traffic and use up your credits. I had a few conversations and had a Skype relationship with one desperate woman from some armpit former Soviet Union state on there for a bit. I got tired of her after a while, and then, with my 50 credits gone in a few days mostly on women who didn't even reply to my "how are you" messages , and now what do I have?

One sort-of-nice girl in Russia who I chat with online every now and then.

And one more thing, Elena's Models keeps billing you every three months unless you stop it. More money down the drain. Many of them are beautiful, kind and generous, just like many other ladies around the world. Go out there for a few months and learn about their culture and background.

Hot women for marriage: a Ukrainian phenomenon?

Or, meet with Russians and Ukrainians in the states - there are quite a lot of them I believe. Fellow Redditors, please don't make the mistakes I've made. There are thousands of amazing women out there, and you don't have to spend a lot of money to make it work. Who knows, that dream girl could be living next door to you!

Why are Ukrainian brides so attractive?

Unattractive man tries to get a "mail order bride" This touches on the key point that I see over and over with guys who come to Eastern Europe searching for a wife. Now how many EE ones? How can you compare? Then they spin it like "well at least I'm better than those shitbags they have in their country. I could go on. Full disclosure - I live in Ukraine and am married to a Ukrainian. I was super lucky to meet my wife, through friends, and with whom I developed a natural rapport with in her native language. It took a year, and I had some bad dates during that time, but I didn't make it my life mission to snag some trophy wife and instead focused on my personal development, and once I got into a relationship I started to work on what I could bring to that relationship besides money, citizenship, and English lessons.

Now I've got a family. And I'm not the only one who's done so in a similar manner.

But I've yet to meet ONE guy who has come here with the "I'm going to find me a wife" mindset who didn't get screwed over multiple times. My single piece of advice to those guys would be this - work out your own issues with women before you come halfway across the world to blow thousands of dollars on girls whose job is to scam you. Yes, I developed a rapport with that one woman.
