Climbing the ladder While MMR is the number we use to determine your opponents, your personal progress is represented by the Leagues system. Here are a few familiar situations to illustrate the difference between your League and your MMR: A Silver player pushing for Gold should expect to see higher-tier players in their games. Your opponent is losing a lot, and the matchmaker is placing them against lower-ranked opponents to find them an appropriate spot on the ladder. This one is pretty rare outside of full-premade teams, but we make our best efforts to try and ensure that we still balance queue times into fair matches.

Only rankeds will allter the mmr but normal just uses it to match people. I've seen several people bring this up after the latest patch. Maybe the small indie company did something? This isn't even that bad. A D5 on each team and then everyone else is about the same elo except Lulu , seems pretty fair really.

But I sure can dismiss it for being stupid. I don't believe ranks really separate players based on skill level. Like anyone bad can get to diamond as long as they play with teams who are able to carry them. I'd be more concerned with people's champion levels than their competitive rankings tbh. Maybe i only touch this game once in awhile but who know?
