Compared with when we conducted our first study of dating and relationships in , many more Americans are using online tools to check up on people they used to date, and to flirt with potential or current love interests:.

And while younger adults are also more likely than their elders to look up past flames online, this behavior is still relatively common among older cohorts.

Today six out of every ten Americans use social networking sites SNS such as Facebook or Twitter, and these sites are often intertwined with the way they experience their past and present romantic relationships:. Younger adults are especially likely to live out their relationships through social networking sites. These sites are also being used as a source of background research on potential romantic partners.

The Dating Project (2018)

As more and more Americans use social networking sites, these spaces can become the site of potential tension or awkwardness around relationships and dating. Not surprisingly, young adults—who have near-universal rates of social networking site use and have spent the bulk of their dating lives in the social media era—are significantly more likely than older social media users to have experienced all three of these situations in the past.

And women are more likely than men to have blocked or unfriended someone who was flirting in a way that made them uncomfortable. The results in this report are based on data from telephone interviews conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International from April 17 to May 19, , among a sample of 2, adults, age 18 and older. Telephone interviews were conducted in English and Spanish by landline 1, and cell phone 1,, including without a landline phone. CANCELED: The Dating Project Movie – April 17, 2018

Attitudes towards online dating are becoming more positive over time Even today, online dating is not universally seen as a positive activity—a significant minority of the public views online dating skeptically. At the same time, public attitudes towards online dating have grown more positive in the last eight years: People today face immense challenges in forming relationships, but The Dating Project offers hope and ways. I have watched this with both high school and college aged students. As a parent, not only did I get a better understanding of how the dating landscape has changed, but also more empathy for those having to deal with it.

The singles, who are actually the target audience, received valuable information about how to regain some of the lost art of dating: These are things that we used to take for granted, but simply are no longer in the script. The movie makes a good case for why they should be. In addition, it was easy to find oneself taking an interest in the five people who are highlighted in the film and who often express eloquently their struggles and their feelings in finding someone to love in a hook-up culture.

I plan to give this to several singles I know - it's that good! I got a better idea about how the culture of the 20 to 40 years old thinks about relationships. It also has some very well thought out steps to take to just date, converse, and think about what you as a partner in a relationship needs to offer rather than just get from another person.

Excellent basis for a teen to college and older single person discussion group.

Who made this?

Would highly recommend it watched by families with older children. This was an excellent video on the status of dating in our culture today.

Online Dating Project

It is so good to see that there are young people out there desiring purity and authentic relationships. Raising children without boundaries is not necessarily a good thing. This gives hope for the future of our society. I got it not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.

While it wasn't earth shattering information, it was nice to see how universal the desire for authentic connection is. Definitely worth a watch. I took my teens to view this in the theater, and knew we needed to add it to our collection for future references.

My only regret is that my copy does not have any extended features. That was just as insightful and thought provoking as the film itself.
